Wake up to the soothing sounds of the sea and start your day exploring the vibrant coastal town of Negombo. Known for its golden beaches, colonial heritage, and centuries-old fishing traditions, Negombo offers a unique blend of history, culture, and seaside relaxation.

After a restful night, embark on a guided tour of Negombo—a town shaped by centuries of colonial influence, spiritual diversity, and a rich fishing heritage. Wander through its narrow streets and discover its multicultural roots.

Visit the grand St. Mary’s Church, one of the largest cathedrals in Sri Lanka, and the serene Katuwapitiya Church, a spiritual landmark for the Roman Catholic community. Step inside a local Buddhist temple to experience the peaceful rhythm of Sri Lankan Buddhist culture. Take in scenic views of the Dutch-era Hamilton Canal, explore the bustling fish market, and enjoy some quiet moments along the golden shores of Negombo Beach. Day 03 Negombo to Wilpattu via Anawilundawa – Wildlife & Wetlands Exploration

Start your day early from your hotel in Negombo, with pickup arranged based on your arrival time to ensure a smooth and comfortable start. En route to Wilpattu National Park, make a refreshing stop at the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary, a peaceful and protected birdwatching haven known for its rich biodiversity and abundant waterfowl.

Spend some time exploring this serene sanctuary, spotting rare and migratory birds in their natural habitat — a perfect introduction to Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife. Continue your journey to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest national park, famous for its unique “villus” lakes and elusive wildlife including leopards, elephants, and sloth bears.

Arrive in time for a thrilling half-day jeep safari inside Wilpattu, where you’ll venture deep into the park’s wilderness in search of its majestic inhabitants. After your safari, transfer to your chosen accommodation near Wilpattu to rest and reflect on the day’s unforgettable experiences.

Next, visit the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as the “Lion Rock.” Climb this majestic rock citadel and discover its impressive water gardens, frescoes, and royal ruins, while enjoying panoramic views from the summit. The park also shelters a variety of other species, including Sambar deer and spotted deer, Sri Lankan sloth bears and leopards (rare sightings), Crocodiles and wild buffalo, over 160 species of birds – from peacocks to painted storks

Full-Day Jeep Safari Experience Begin your private game drive with a professional park naturalist and experienced jeep driver. Located near Habarana, Hurulu Eco Park is part of the larger Hurulu Forest Reserve, a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This protected area plays a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s dry-zone ecosystem and serves as a vital elephant migration corridor that connects Minneriya, Kaudulla, and Wasgamuwa National Parks.

Renowned for its lush dry-zone forest and open grasslands, Hurulu Eco Park offers an excellent opportunity to witness wild elephants in their natural habitat — especially during the dry season when they migrate from nearby national parks. Unlike Minneriya and Kaudulla, which can get busy during peak seasons, Hurulu Eco Park offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience. The park features dense dry evergreen forests, scattered open grasslands, and watering holes — ideal for wildlife viewing and photography.
