Karatepe Aslantas Open Air Museum

Karatepe Aslantas Open Air Museum was built in the 8th century BC, during the last Hittite period. It is well known that King Asativata of Adanava, a government established after the collapse of the Hittite Empire, was established to protect against any attacks from the north. The archeological digs were started in 1946, and it is the site where the longest bilingual texts of hieroglyphic writings are read. The site is Turkey’s largest and first open-air museum. Visitors can also spend time around the Aslantas dam, which takes in the open-air museum.
