Mudanya Armistice House Museum

The Mudanya Armistice House Museum stands as a symbolic location where the first political success of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye was officially recognized. The historic Mudanya Armistice, which marked a crucial turning point in the Turkish War of Independence, was signed in this very house.

Located in the center of Mudanya, the building dates back to the late 19th century. Originally owned by Russian-born Aleksandr Ganyanof, the house was later purchased and restored by the businessman Hayri İpar from Mudanya. It was opened as a museum in 1937 under the administration of Mudanya Municipality, and in 1959 it was transferred to the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.

The wooden structure, excluding its basement and attic, consists of two main floors. On the first floor, visitors can see the historic hall where the Armistice was signed as well as İsmet Pasha’s working room. The upper floor features the bedrooms used by İsmet Pasha and his aides. The museum preserves original furnishings from the Armistice period, and displays archival photographs and documents that reflect the political atmosphere of the time.

Following extensive renovation and exhibition design work, the Mudanya Armistice House Museum was reopened to visitors on 10 October 2014. Its most recent restoration was completed on 11 October 2022, further enhancing its role as a significant cultural and historical landmark.
