Samsun Gazi Museum

Samsun Gazi Museum was built in 1902 by Jean Ionnis Mantika, also called as Mintika Palas Hotel. It was built in lath and plaster style, which means that the interior dividing walls and ceilings consist of narrow strips of wood (laths) nailed horizontally across the wall studs. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stayed here in 1919 when he first arrived in the city to start the Turkish Independence War. Then, in 1939, the first floor was converted into the 19 May Public Museum, and the entrance was used as a chamber theater. After repairs and adjustments, it became the Samsun Gazi Museum in 1998. The museum's collection includes 191 artifacts related to Ataturk and the Turkish Independence War, which started in 1919.
