Istanbul has been a metropolis for centuries. Fountains and public water dispensers were built to serve the people who needed water. The greatest service to the people is to meet their needs for water and food. 70% of a human being is water. Water will be a necessity as long as humanity exists. Sultans had various fountains and public water dispensers built to earn merit. Sultans who worked to serve the people had fountains and public water dispensers built to meet the people's water needs. Thirteen fountains and public water dispensers located in the metropolitan city of Istanbul are listed below. These are:
