As someone who isn’t a fan of roller coasters, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would there be enough to do? Would I spend the day waiting around while everyone else chased the biggest rides?

The answer was a definite yes, and by the end of the day, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much fun I’d had.

What makes PortAventura so enjoyable is that it’s far more than just a theme park packed with extreme rides. The park is beautifully themed, taking visitors through different parts of the world, from the Mediterranean to Mexico, China and Polynesia. Simply wandering through the different areas is an experience in itself, with impressive architecture, colourful streets, live entertainment and plenty of places to stop for food or a refreshing drink.

The biggest highlight of the day, however, was without a doubt Sesame Street Land. Bursting with bright colours, playful music and familiar faces, it’s impossible not to smile as you walk through the entrance. The area is full of family-friendly attractions, interactive play areas and gentle rides that are just as entertaining for adults as they are for children.

Meeting beloved Sesame Street characters and watching families create memories together gave the whole area a wonderfully cheerful atmosphere. It felt less like a theme park and more like stepping into a television programme that many of us grew up watching.

Even outside Sesame Street Land, there was plenty to enjoy without venturing onto the biggest coasters. From relaxing boat rides and themed attractions to entertaining live shows and street performances, there was always something happening. The attention to detail throughout the park is impressive, making every corner worth exploring, whether you’re chasing thrills or simply taking in the atmosphere.

Of course, if you’re visiting with friends or family who love roller coasters, PortAventura is still an excellent choice. While they tackle the park’s famous headline attractions, there’s more than enough to keep everyone else entertained, making it a destination that caters to all kinds of visitors.

If you’ve ever dismissed PortAventura because you’re not a thrill-seeker, I’d encourage you to think again. You don’t have to spend your day upside down at 100 miles an hour to have a fantastic time. Whether it’s strolling through beautifully themed lands, enjoying the entertainment, sampling the food or soaking up the joyful atmosphere of Sesame Street Land, there’s so much more to this park than its roller coasters.

For me, it was proof that the best theme park memories aren’t always made on the biggest rides, they’re often found in the unexpected moments that leave you smiling long after you’ve left.
