About Adatepe Olive Oil Museum From Canakkale
Adatepe Olive Oil Museum
As the first of its kind in Türkiye, the Adatepe
Olive Oil “Factory–Museum” has welcomed tens of thousands of local and
international visitors since 2001.
Olives and olive oil hold a profound cultural heritage in
this land—so deep that references to them appear in all major sacred texts.
Despite this rich background, written or visual material about olive culture in
Türkiye had long been scarce. This gap inspired the creation of the Adatepe
Olive Oil Museum.
The historic soaphouse building in Küçükkuyu was carefully restored, and while
traditional “kuru baskı” cold-press olive oil production continues, tools and
equipment gathered from surrounding villages are displayed throughout the
factory.
Visitors can explore historic olive oil presses, olive-harvesting
tools, transport and storage containers, and various folkloric
objects. The museum also features detailed explanations of traditional
olive-oil soap making.
From harvesting to pressing, filtering, storing, and
transporting, every stage of olive oil production is presented through objects,
visuals, and authentic demonstrations—ending with a delightful tasting session
paired with freshly baked village bread. This informative and enjoyable
experience captivates visitors of all ages.
Located at the entrance of Küçükkuyu on the
Çanakkale–İzmir highway, the museum is designed with contemporary museology
principles and offers:
Museum Shop
A selection of fresh olives, high-quality olive oil,
natural soaps, uniquely designed kitchen accessories, and publications.
Adatepe Kitchen
Tea and coffee varieties, refreshing juices, and locally
prepared olive-oil dishes made from entirely natural ingredients
(advance reservation is recommended for groups).
The Adatepe Olive Oil Museum stands today as a unique
cultural attraction and an exceptional example contributing to Türkiye’s
growing cultural tourism.
