Day 1 – Arrival in Bujumbura & City Tour

Upon arrival at Bujumbura International Airport (Melchior Ndadaye International), you will be warmly welcomed by your driver-guide, who will assist with immigration formalities and luggage collection before transferring you to your hotel, just 15–20 minutes away. After checking in and enjoying a short rest, your afternoon begins with a journey into the city’s history and culture. You will first visit the Independence Monument, a proud symbol of Burundi’s sovereignty since 1962, followed by the bustling Central Market, where colorful crafts, woven baskets, intricate textiles, and the aroma of fresh produce create a sensory delight. The day’s exploration continues at the Livingstone–Stanley Monument at Mugere, set on the tranquil shores of Lake Tanganyika, marking the historic meeting of two legendary explorers in 1871. As the sun sets, you will unwind at Saga Beach, its golden sands and gentle waves creating the perfect backdrop for a peaceful stroll. Day 2 – Rusizi National Park & Cultural Experiences

After breakfast, the morning takes you to Rusizi National Park, located just 20 minutes from the city center. Here, you will enjoy a guided game drive through sandy tracks, spotting hippos basking in the river, crocodiles gliding through the waters, sitatungas grazing quietly, and an array of colorful bird species. A boat ride along the Rusizi River will offer even closer encounters with the park’s wildlife. Returning to Bujumbura for lunch, your afternoon will be dedicated to cultural exploration with a visit to the National Museum or the Geological Museum, where exhibits range from ethnographic collections to natural history. The route winds through rolling hills dotted with banana plantations, offering picturesque viewpoints perfect for short photography stops. On arrival, you will visit the Gitega National Museum, home to the country’s largest collection of cultural artifacts, including traditional drums, royal regalia, and ethnographic displays that tell the story of Burundi’s heritage. Just outside the city lies the Gishora Drum Sanctuary, founded by King Mwami Mwezi Gisabo, where you will witness a mesmerizing drum performance and learn about the cultural and symbolic significance of drumming in Burundian society. Day 4 – Karera Waterfalls & Source of the Nile

After an early breakfast, you will set out for Rutana Province, a journey of about two hours, to discover the spectacular Karera Waterfalls. These four cascading falls, surrounded by lush vegetation, create a natural haven ideal for short hikes, photography, and moments of peaceful reflection. Continuing your journey, you will travel for about an hour to Rutovu to visit the Source of the Nile, marked by a modest pyramid monument that celebrates this geographic wonder. Here, you will enjoy a picnic lunch before embarking on the scenic four-hour drive back to Bujumbura. The evening will be at leisure, with dinner served at a lakeside restaurant, allowing you to enjoy the cool evening breeze from Lake Tanganyika.

Day 5 – Lake Tanganyika Leisure & Departure

Your final morning in Burundi begins with a leisurely breakfast, followed by free time to relax at your hotel’s pool or along the inviting sands of Saga Beach. For those seeking a bit more adventure, optional activities such as kayaking or a short boat cruise on Lake Tanganyika can be arranged. You may also wish to visit the Village Market for last-minute shopping, picking up souvenirs such as handwoven baskets, Burundian coffee, and colorful fabrics.
