About this tour
Discover the cradle of Christian monasticism and ancient pharaonic civilization on this 6-day (5-night) private tour combining the 4th-century desert monasteries of Wadi El Natroun, the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Nile-side Holy Family Church in Maadi, Old Coptic Cairo, the Egyptian Museum, and a pilgrimage to St. Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai. Accompanied by a private Egyptologist guide, this itinerary includes 5 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 1 dinner (10 meals in total).
Spend Nights 1 to 3 at a 5-star hotel in Cairo (Bed & Breakfast: e.g., Steigenberger El Tahrir or Ramses Hilton). On Day 2, travel into the Western Desert to visit the historic Coptic monasteries of Wadi El Natroun (Deir Anba Bishoy and Deir El-Suryani, and see the Monastery of St. Macarius / Deir Abu Makar) before visiting the Giza Pyramids and Great Sphinx with lunch included. On Day 3, explore the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, the Hanging Church and Holy Family Crypt at Abu Serga in Coptic Cairo, and the Virgin Mary Church overlooking the Nile at Maadi with lunch included.
On Day 4, drive across the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula with lunch en route, checking into your mountain hotel at St. Catherine (Night 4, Half Board with dinner and Day 5 breakfast). Climb Mount Sinai for sunrise on Day 5 and visit the 6th-century Monastery of St. Catherine with lunch before returning to Cairo for Night 5 ahead of your Day 6 departure. Physical Demands Note: Suitable for ages 10–70 with moderate fitness; the pre-dawn Mount Sinai ascent (01:30 start, approx. 3.5 hours up along the camel path and 750 summit steps) requires warm layered clothing, a flashlight, and sturdy walking shoes.
