Apollonia is one of Albania’s most unique archaeological sites. Situated a short drive from the town of Fier, it is located in what was once southern Illyria on the bank of the world-famous Vjosa River. A previous trade colony and polis, it dates back to at least 600 BC and functioned as a key economic and military hub for the region. Stroll through history, visit old temples, ruins, the odeon, nymphaeum, library, and St Mary’s Church. The tour will also stop at the Monastery of Ardenic, perched on top of a hill overlooking the countryside and the sea beyond. This monastery is home to a chapel where it is believed Skangerbeg got married many years before.

Itinerary
Meet at your hotel at 9:00 a.m. Begin the tour by driving towards the city of Fier in the middle of Albania. The Monastery of Ardenica will be the first stop. This monastery is located in a dominant position on the hill with the same name, which offers a relaxing view of the Field of Myzeqe. Even if your first impression is of a typical cult object, it contains significant historical and cultural value. Next, you will visit Apollonia, an ancient settlement and one of the biggest in the Adriatic area. You will feel relaxed and meditative as you walk through this settlement hour after hour, through a landscape that has changed little since antiquity.
