Begin the day with an early morning dolphin and whale watching excursion in Kalpitiya, one of Sri Lanka’s best-known marine wildlife destinations.

Kalpitiya is especially famous for large pods of spinner dolphins, while bottlenose, striped, Risso’s, and other dolphin species may also be seen. Depending on the season and sea conditions, there may also be opportunities to spot sperm whales and, more rarely, blue whales. All wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

After returning to shore, visit the historic Kalpitiya Fort, built by the Dutch in the 17th century. Explore this important colonial landmark and learn about its role in protecting the entrance to Puttalam Lagoon and supporting maritime trade.

Continue to the Dutch Reformed Church, one of the area’s notable colonial-era religious buildings, before returning to the coast.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time at the beach or, depending on the season and weather conditions, choose an optional kitesurfing experience.

After breakfast, depart for Wilpattu National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most scenic wildlife reserves.

Wilpattu is known for its dry-zone forest, dense vegetation, and distinctive natural lakes known as villus, which provide important habitats for both resident and migratory wildlife. During your safari, explore the park’s varied landscapes and look for species such as Sri Lankan elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, buffalo, sambar, and mongoose.

The park is also rich in birdlife, with opportunities to observe herons, egrets, spoonbills, eagles, painted storks, Sri Lanka junglefowl, and many other species. Wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

After the safari, continue your journey toward Sigiriya. Arrive at your hotel in the evening, check in, and relax after a full day of wildlife exploration.

Overnight: Hotel in Sigiriya

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic cultural and historical destinations.

Visit the impressive Sigiriya Rock Fortress, built during the reign of King Kashyapa in the 5th century. Rising nearly 200 meters above the surrounding landscape, the site is known for its ancient gardens, palace ruins, frescoes, defensive structures, and panoramic views. Today, Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most important heritage attractions.

Continue with an authentic Sri Lankan village experience, where you can discover traditional rural life and local customs. Depending on the program, activities may include a bullock cart ride, river safari, and paddy field experiences.

Later, visit Pidurangala Rock, located just north of Sigiriya. The climb is more challenging, but the summit offers spectacular panoramic views across the surrounding countryside and one of the best viewpoints of Sigiriya Rock.

After breakfast, depart for Negombo, with a cultural stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla.

The site offers a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s religious, artistic, and cultural heritage, along with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Continue your journey with a stop at a spice garden, where you can learn more about Sri Lanka’s traditional herbs and aromatic spices.

Upon arrival in Negombo, check in at your hotel and enjoy a short city tour. Discover local highlights such as the Dutch Canal, Negombo Fish Market, and St. Mary’s Church before spending the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the beach.

Depending on traffic and your flight schedule, the journey from Negombo to the airport takes approximately 30–60 minutes. Take in the final views of Sri Lanka as your 8-day journey comes to an end.
