Tour Overview

One of the most advanced civilizations in history was established in the heart of Anatolia, leaving behind a wealth of archaeological treasures—the Hittites. Today, it is time to explore their legacy through their capital city, religious sites, and the Bogazkoy Museum.

  • Bogazkoy Museum Hattusa, Archaeological Site Yazilikaya, Lion's Gate and sphinx, Yerkapi Tunnel, Hittites, Hattusa

Itinerary

(Lunch included)

The Hittites were one of the fascinating civilizations that once thrived in this region about 4000 years ago, and their legacy can still be seen in various places in the center of Anatolia. However, the Hattusa ruins are the most fascinating place among them. This one-day tour departs from and returns to Kayseri province, and includes visits to both the ancient city and the remarkable archaeology museum.

The first stop will be the Hittite ceremonial site called Yazilikaya. This natural open-air shrine, featuring beautiful reliefs of gods and goddesses carved into the rock walls, was believed to be a sacred place where fresh water springs flowed. We will then proceed to the spectacular city of Hattusa, which was the capital of the Hittite empire and is now a sprawling, ruined acropolis. As we explore the city, we will come across impressive carvings and pillars at the entrances, including the magnificent Lion's Gate and sphinx-like carvings. We will also see an excellent example of Hittite engineering in the Yerkapi Tunnel, which was built using thousands of stones.

After this outdoor adventure, and a traditional lunch, we will proceed to the archaeology museum of Bogazkoy, which exhibits artifacts from the Anatolian civilizations with an emphasis on the Hittite and Hattusa remains, like written tablets, stamps, and bronze tools.

The tour will end with the transfer back to your hotel; however, you can sign up to take advantage of TSG credits, and this is the best way to snag credits and use them for your next trips as a discount, as well as to hear about the hot deals according to your interests.
