Itinerary
Welcome to the land of the pharaohs! Arrive in Cairo, included transfer to hotel and overnight. Overnight: Cairo
Today, we visit the legendary pyramids and iconic Sphinx at Giza Plateau. Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World. Gaze in awe at the largest of the three great pyramids – Cheops, constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks it took more than 20 years to construct. We explore this area on foot and then on the back of a camel! Off we ride into the sands, our sturdy ships of the desert beneath us! Overnight: Cairo | Breakfast
Cairo – Aswan. Today, we venture in search of the treasures of King Tutankhamen, mummies, and more at the Egyptian Museum. Later we tour the Islamic Citadel of Saladin with views looking down over the old city, watching people go about their daily life. We conclude the day with a market walk through the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Time to freshen up, this evening we take the comfortable overnight sleeper train to Aswan. Overnight: Sleeper Train | Breakfast, Dinner
This morning we arrive in Aswan and explore the Nubian city on a guided walk of the local market and souq. Scenically located on the Nile, a walk along the riverside corniche to view the many boats is a real treat, as is Aswan bazaar. Free afternoon. Overnight: Aswan | Breakfast
A free day or opt for the morning air excursion to Abu Simbel. The remainder of the afternoon at leisure; maybe relax by the pool, take a stroll along the Nile corniche or explore the lively marketplace. Overnight: Aswan | Breakfast
Aswan – Luxor. This morning we board a motorboat and cruise in and around the islands located on the Nile, before stopping at Seheil Island island where we visit a local village and school (if open); sometimes there is even a local football game in action. Lunch will be served in the home of an Egyptian family followed by the train north to Luxor, one of the world’s greatest open-air museums. The 4000-year-old site of ancient Thebes, known today as Luxor, is our base for the next three days. Overnight: Luxor | Breakfast, Lunch
Today we visit Karnak Temple. More than a temple, Karnak is a spectacular complex of sanctuaries, pylons, statuettes and obelisks. Built on a grand scale, Karnak is probably Egypt’s finest ancient temple. This afternoon is free to wander along Luxor’s historic waterfront. This evening, we travel in horse-drawn carriages to the illuminated Temple of Luxor where we enjoy a tour in the cool evening air. Overnight: Luxor | Breakfast
Luxor – Cairo. Today, we visit Luxor’s legendary West Bank – home to the famous Valleys of the Kings, the imposing colonnaded temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the gigantic Colossi of Memnon. See how the ancient Egyptians confounded tomb robbers with the construction of elaborate catacombs, once filled with treasures and highly decorated to allow the pharaoh passage to the afterlife. Tonight, we return to Cairo by sleeper train. Overnight: Sleeper Train | Breakfast, Dinner
Arriving in Cairo this morning, the rest of the day is free to explore Africa’s largest city. Spend the day around the pool, or perhaps head out, explore and take the family for a nice lunch at one of the city’s many hotels. Overnight: Cairo | Breakfast
Tour ends after breakfast and included onward transfer to the airport. Breakfast
