What makes this tour special
Itinerary
Upon your arrival at La Aurora airport in Guatemala City, our team will be waiting for your departure, to take you to your hotel in Antigua Guatemala City.
Today, our guide will take you on a Walking tour around Antigua Guatemala. You will walk inside old houses, churches, and some convents, which were part of this city's history.
Today our team will pick you up at your hotel to take you to La Soledad (1798 m.a.s.l.), from where you will start the hike to the top of the Acatenango volcano (3976 m.a.s.l.). Upon arrival at base camp, you will take a rest and begin your preparation to go to see the Fuego volcano up close, a journey that takes 4 hours between going and returning to base camp. In the evening, you will be served dinner, and there will be the possibility of seeing the explosions of the Fuego volcano in front of you.
Today you will start your day by descending to reach the crater, and from there you will be able to enjoy the sunrise and the panorama, which shows the mountain range, Lake Atitlán, and the Pacific Ocean. Then you will return to the camp to have breakfast and start your return to La Soledad, where you will be picked up to take you to Antigua Guatemala.
Today you will leave for Quetzaltenango (Xela). You will visit the small villages of Nahulá, where the so-called millstones are made. You will visit the beautiful facade of San Andres Xecul and the first Hermitage of Central America, located in Salcajá. Then you will continue to your hotel in Xela.
Chicabal Volcano is a protected area located in the municipality of San Martín Sacatepéquez, department of Quetzaltenango. According to local culture, the volcano and the lagoon located in its crater are protected by nahuales (representations of elements of nature), spiritual beings that protect people from birth. This colossus has a height of 2900 meters above sea level; in Mam language, "Chicabal" means "Water of sweet spirit". In the afternoon, you will return to your hotel.
Today you will depart towards Lake Atitlán, making a detour on the way to visit the impressive market of Chichicastenango, or simply Chichi as we call it in Guatemala. According to historical data, this market was already very important before the arrival of the conquistadors in Guatemala. Because of its geographical position, it has always had a privileged position, as people from many parts of the highlands come to sell their products here. You will visit the market, the two catholic churches, and the local cemetery. In the afternoon, you will leave for the beautiful Lake Atitlán.
Today, together with our guide, you will board a boat that will take you on a tour of this beautiful lake surrounded by 3 volcanoes: San Pedro, Atitlán, and Tolimán. Visiting the magical towns of Santiago Atitlán, San Juan, and San Pedro la Laguna. In the afternoon, you will return to your hotel.
Today in the morning you will leave Nebaj, through Santa Cruz del Quiché, the capital of the department of Quiché; San Pedro Jocopilas and other small towns along the route, making a stop to use the bathroom and relax a bit in the middle of the route. Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel.
Today you will leave with a local guide for a different kind of adventure. The hike begins with a steep incline, where visitors will enjoy views of mountains, pine forests, and cornfields. The group will stop along the way to observe valleys, listen to birdsong, and learn about fauna and flora. The guide will be taking you to the small village of Rio Azul to taste Boxbol food; this type of food is made in the area of Baja Verapaz and Quiché, especially in Nebaj, where it is considered a typical dish of the region. It is considered a dish for special occasions and is a traditional food of the Ixil Triangle, made of corn dough wrapped in leaves and cooked in water; similar to a simple tamale. This will be accompanied by a delicious lemonade. You will be back in Nebaj after 2:00 pm.
Today in the morning they will leave for the municipality of Purulhá, to the Mario Dary Rivera University Biotope for the Conservation of the Quetzal, founded in 1976. It has a territorial extension of 1,044 hectares and was officially established as a protected area, with the main objective of protecting the Quetzal bird and its habitat, the cloud forest. After this visit, you will continue to your hotel.
Today in the morning, (bring a towel and bathing suit) you will leave for Lanquín, where a 4X4 vehicle will be waiting to take you to the Semuc Champey natural reserve. Once there, you will visit the Kamba caves, the viewpoint, and the natural pools, and have a tubing adventure on the Cahabón River. In the afternoon, return to your hotel in Cobán.
Today, in a bathing suit and towel, you will leave for the natural wonder of Hun Nal Ye ("The House of the Moon God"), a site full of mysticism in the department of Alta Verapaz. After you visit this place, return to your hotel in Cobán.
Today in the morning you will leave for the Candelaria Caves, which are a large natural cave system located in the transition between the highlands and the lowlands of the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, between the municipalities of Chisec and Raxruhá, in the region called Franja Transversal del Norte. After your visit, you will continue to Flores Island, as we will have a long drive to that region. Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel.
Today, a new work team will be driving you to Cráter Azul, which is one of the water springs of the La Pasión River, in the municipality of Las Cruces, in the department of Petén, Guatemala. The natural springs of this place are navy blue or turquoise, and due to its crystalline water, you can observe the entire underwater garden at the bottom. In the afternoon, return to your hotel in Flores Island.
Today in the morning, you will be taken to board your boat to take a ride on Lake Petén Itzá, which is the third-largest lake in Guatemala. This first part of our boat ride will not be very long, as we will arrive at our first stop, ARCAS, a wildlife rehabilitation center, in just 10 minutes. We will then continue to the town of San Miguel, where we will visit the Stone Horse monument in memory of the legend of the Mayan Horse to Hernan Cortes. We will dock and begin our ascent to the Mirador del Rey Canek, the highest part of the village, where we can admire a 360-degree view of the lake. Afterward, you will head to a restaurant, continue to the archaeological site of Yaxhá, and appreciate the sunset from the Temple of the Red Hands (Structure 216). Return to your hotel in Flores Island.
Today will undoubtedly be full of culture, archaeology, and nature as we visit the archaeological site of Tikal, which is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, along with Calakmul, Chichen Itza, and Palenque. Tikal was the capital of a belligerent state, which became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Period, between 200 and 900 A.D. During this time, the city dominated much of the Maya region, politically, economically, and militarily; it maintained links with other regions throughout Mesoamerica, including the great metropolis of Teotihuacan in the distant valley of Mexico. At noon you will be taken to have lunch at the visitor's center, time to take the last photos, and return to your hotel in Flores Island.
Today it is time to say goodbye to the country called the Home of Mayan culture and return home. At the agreed time, our team will transfer you to La Aurora International Airport to board your flight back to your country.
