Highlights
Itinerary
Meeting
at Niko Nikoladze Statue
Your guide will meet you at the Statue
of Niko Nikoladze near the Poti Sea Port,
holding a signboard with your name. After a short introduction, the walking
tour begins.
Poti
Sea Port & Yacht Club
Start exploring the port
area, historically known as “Morvagzal.”
Nearby you will see the Poti Yacht Club, a
docking area for yachts, passenger boats, and cargo ships. The small Saint
Nicholas Church is also located nearby and serves as a quiet
maritime chapel.
Aghmashenebeli
Street & Rioni River Bridge
Walk along Aghmashenebeli
Street toward the historic center. Along the way you will pass Nikoladze’s
embankment and cross the bridge over the Rioni
River, which connects different parts of the city.
The embankment also features April 9 Memorial Alley, commemorating important events in Georgian history.
War
Memorial & Historic Monuments
Before reaching the cathedral you will
see a memorial
dedicated to the heroes of the 2008 war, honoring those who defended
Georgia.
Poti
Cathedral
Arrive at the impressive Poti
Cathedral, one of the most remarkable architectural monuments
of the early 20th century. Your guide will share the
story of its construction and how the cathedral was transformed into a theater
during the Soviet period before returning to its role as an Orthodox church.
Nikoladze
Clock Tower
Next to the cathedral stands the
historic Nikoladze
Clock Tower, a unique 19th-century architectural monument.
In 1896, Mayor Niko Nikoladze installed a mechanical
clock imported from Paris on the tower’s top floor and even used the tower as
his residence for a period.
Poti
Lighthouse
The final destination of the tour is
the famous Poti
Lighthouse, one of the oldest and tallest navigation structures
in the Black Sea region. The lighthouse is still active and
maintained by the Georgian State Hydrographic Service.
Visitors can climb 153 spiral steps to reach the top and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Poti city, the Rioni River, and the Black Sea coastline.
Guests who prefer not to climb can explore the exhibition hall displaying maritime artifacts and navigation equipment.
End
of the Tour
The tour finishes near the Poti
Lighthouse, where you can enjoy a walk along the rocky seaside
and admire the meeting point of the Rioni River and the Black Sea.
