Along the way, explore the fascinating: Sigiriya Rock's Story – The Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as Lion’s Rock, was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century as a palace and fortress. Day 10: Yala National Park

Early Morning – Transfer to Yala National Park Start Full day half day safari. early in the morning with a drive to Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife reserves. This park is known for its incredible leopard sightings, with the highest density of leopards in the world. As you enter, keep an eye out for leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and a myriad of bird species. The park is a mix of forest, grasslands, and lagoons, bordered by the Indian Ocean.

Game Drive in Yala National Park Embark on a full-day game drive where you’ll explore the park’s diverse ecosystems. Yala is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Sri Lankan leopard, elephants, crocodiles, spotted deer, and more. The park’s landscape ranges from dry scrubland to lagoons, making it ideal for spotting a wide range of animals and bird species.

As you explore, you’ll encounter animals like the painted stork, peacocks, and monkeys. Sri Lankan leopards, the stars of the park, are often seen prowling through the bush, and you may be lucky enough to spot them during your safari.

Birdwatching and Reptiles Yala National Park is also a haven for birdwatchers. Over 130 species of birds can be found here, including crested serpent eagles, white-bellied sea eagles, and a variety of waterfowl. Mugger crocodiles, estuarine crocodiles, and other reptiles, such as cobras and Russell’s vipers, are also present.

The park’s coastal areas are home to sea turtles, including Olive Ridley and Leatherback turtles, which nest on the shores. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these incredible creatures throughout your safari.

Day 11: Udawalawe National Park

 

Early in the Morning – Transfer Tissamahrama to Udawalawe Before visit Bundala national bird park transfer to Udawalawe, one of the greatest and most important protected areas in Sri Lanka. Known for its remarkable biodiversity, the park serves as a crucial habitat for Sri Lankan elephants and a variety of water birds. In the Morning or afternoon, embark on a game drive through Udawalawe National Park. The park is renowned for its large population of Sri Lankan elephants, which roam freely in the park’s natural environment. You will also have the chance to see a variety of other wildlife, including water buffalo, crocodiles, and a wide array of bird species.

The park’s vast plains, wetlands, and dense forests make it a prime location for animal sightings, and it's one of the best places in Sri Lanka to spot elephants in the wild

Visit to the Elephant Transit Home Once you arrive, head to the Elephant Transit Home, an essential conservation center dedicated to caring for orphaned or injured baby elephants. Founded in 1995, the home has rehabilitated many elephants, providing them with the care and nutrition they need until they are strong enough to return to the wild. You will be able to observe a group of around 20 to 30 juvenile elephants being fed four times a day. Feeding time 10:30 am, 2:30 pm, and 6:00 pm. The Elephant Transit Home plays a crucial role in rehabilitating elephants that have been separated from their herds due to human-wildlife conflict or other reasons. Day 12: Unawatuna Beach

 

Morning – Transfer to Mirissa

After a delicious breakfast, depart for Mirissa, a coastal town known for its whale and dolphin sightings. The journey will take approximately 5 hours, offering scenic views of Sri Lanka's beautiful southern coastline. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take some time to settle in.

Next, head to Weligama, famous for its traditional stilt fishermen. This unique fishing method involves fishermen balancing on a single pole planted into the sea-bed, with lines cast into the waters to catch small fish. Stilt fishing, a tradition that began after World War II, is now mainly practiced in a few coastal towns like Koggala, Kaththaluwa, and Ahangama.

Witness the fishermen's skill and balance as they fish from their perched poles. This fascinating sight is especially beautiful at dawn, noon, and dusk, when the fishermen are in action.
