Alanya Shipyard and Tophane

The Alanya Shipyard and Armory, historical structures from the Seljuk period, are significant landmarks of Alanya. Construction on the shipyard began in 1228, six years after the city was taken by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, and was completed within a year. The shipyard's sea-facing facade boasts five arched cells and spans 56.5 meters in length with a depth of 44 meters. The site was strategically chosen to maximize daylight. The entrance gate of the shipyard bears the coat of arms of Sultan Keykubat and is adorned with rosettes.

The Alanya Shipyard is the first Seljuk shipyard to have been built in the Mediterranean. Sultan Keykubat, who had previously constructed the Sinop Shipyard in the Black Sea, was dubbed the "sultan of the two seas" with the addition of the Alanya Shipyard. A mosque is situated on one side of the shipyard, and a guard room is located on the other. One of the chambers houses a well that has been out of commission for some time. Visitors can access the shipyard, which can be reached by boat from the sea or on foot from the walls next to the Red Tower (Kizil Kule).
