Ayasuluk Archaelogical Site

Ayasuluk was called Apasas during the Arzawa-Mira kingdom and was a metropolis until it was conquered by King Croesus of Lydia in the 5th BC. The Ephesians were moved to Ayasuluk in 7 AD. At the same time, the graveyard of Apoostel St. Jean quickly became a piligrimage site during the Byzantine period. Turks conquered the region in the 14th century, and it served as the capital of the Aydnids for a while. Today, the ruins of St. Jean Bascilica and Ayasuluk Castle can be visited.
