Sanliurfa Castle

Sanliurfa Castle was constructed in the capital of Osroene, a state in Upper Mesopotamia known as the Kingdom of Edessa.  It is located on Dambak hill, which is close to the city center. Although the precise date is unknown, the castle dates from the second millennium BC. The current walls, however, were built by the Abbasid Caliphate in the 9th century AD. It is said that the two stone columns on the castle were used as catapults to throw Abraham into the fire.
