The Old City's Four Quarters

Jerusalem's walled Old City divides into Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Armenian quarters, each with its own rhythm of markets and worship. The Western Wall draws prayer at all hours, while the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a short walk away, holds the traditional sites of the crucifixion and burial.

Views from the Mount of Olives

Across the Kidron Valley, the Mount of Olives looks back over the Old City and the golden Dome of the Rock, especially striking near sunset. Many tours add Bethlehem or the Dead Sea as a half-day extension, both under an hour's drive away. Inside the walls, the covered market stalls of the Muslim Quarter sell spices, pastries and olive-wood carvings almost within sight of the Western Wall.
