About Ankara Gordion Museum
The Gordion
Museum was established in 1963 next to a small village of about 500
inhabitants, known today as Yassıhöyük. The museum presents a chronological
exhibition in which each historical period is represented with characteristic examples.
Three
display cases feature artifacts from the Early Bronze Age, followed by objects
from the Early Phrygian Period, which ends with King Midas. Among these are
handmade pottery from the Early Iron Age, as well as iron tools and textile
production implements from the Early Phrygian Era.
In the new
exhibition hall, a typical structure belonging to the destruction layer dated
to around 700 BC is presented within a panoramic display.
The
remaining section of the new hall showcases imported Greek ceramics from the
6th century BC to the 4th century AD, along with materials from the Hellenistic
and Roman periods.
In the final
section, visitors have the opportunity to view seal impressions and coin
specimens unearthed in Gordion.
