About Ankara Turkish Aeronautical Association Museum and Parachute Tower

To preserve and showcase the development of Turkish aviation for future generations, the Central Executive Board of the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) decided in November 2000 to establish the THK Museum. Construction and restoration work began on December 2, 2000, with a museum permit granted by the Ministry of Culture, adjacent to the historic Parachute Tower. The museum officially opened with a grand ceremony on the symbolic date of 19 May 2002.

The museum complex is located in one of Ankara’s oldest historical districts, near the Ankara Castle, the Roman Bath ruins, traditional inns (hanlar), the First Grand National Assembly building, and the historic theatre and railway station buildings. It is also situated right next to the Ankara Arena, a venue for international events. Within the complex are the historic Parachute Tower, an outdoor display area featuring original aircraft, and the museum building where historically significant documents and artifacts are exhibited.

Inspired by a similar tower in a military training center in Russia, the construction of a Parachute Tower in Türkiye was approved, and the tower was completed in 1937. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Celal Bayar. Today, the Parachute Tower is registered as a Monumental Structure by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Since 2010, the museum grounds have undergone several enhancements, including landscaping projects and the addition of a children's playground. New projects aimed at increasing visitor engagement and improving the museum experience continue to be developed and implemented. The museum is officially recognized as a Private Museum by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, under the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and Museums.

The museum’s first section sheds light on the history of Turkish aviation, honoring pioneering aviators whose contributions paved the way for the development of flying in Türkiye. The second section presents documents, photographs, and various models that illustrate the history of the Turkish Aeronautical Association and its activities since its founding. The museum also features a café and a dedicated play area for children.
