About Antalya Atatürk House Museum
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of
Turkey and one of history’s greatest leaders, frequently travelled across the
country to listen to the people, observe local conditions, and carry out
on-site assessments. Many of the houses where he stayed during these national
tours were later transformed into museums that preserve his memories and
showcase his personal belongings. The Antalya Atatürk House Museum is
one such residence, where Atatürk stayed during his visits to Antalya in 1930
and 1935, and which today continues to honour his legacy.
Atatürk visited Antalya for the first time on 6 March
1930, staying in this house until 12 March. During his visit he met
with farmers and citrus growers, held various consultations, and toured
historical sites in the region. It was also during this trip that he ordered
the restoration of the Aspendos Theatre and its reopening for
visitors—an initiative that later paved the way for cultural events and
festivals to be held there. When Atatürk returned to Antalya on 18 February
1935, he stayed once again in this same residence allocated for his use.
Originally belonging to the Governor’s Office, the
building later served as a school and was used by various public institutions.
Although the structure was demolished in 1984, it was rebuilt to honour
Atatürk’s memory and reopened as the Atatürk House and Museum in 1986.
This two-storey museum offers visitors a meaningful
journey through Atatürk’s time in Antalya.
- Ground Floor: Exhibits newspaper clippings
and photographs from his Antalya visits, along with a documentary titled Atatürk
and Antalya.
- Upper Floor: Features a room displaying Atatürk’s personal
belongings, as well as a section showcasing Turkish banknotes issued from
the founding of the Republic to the present day.
