About Bursa Archaeological Museum
The
Bursa Archaeology Museum was first established on 1 September 1904 through the
efforts of Azmi Bey, the Director of National Education of the period, as a
branch of the Imperial Museum (Müze-i Hümayun). It was initially housed in a
section of Bursa Boys’ High School and continued under this status until 1930,
when it became an independent directorate and was relocated to the Yeşil
Madrasa, built by Çelebi Sultan Mehmed.
In 1972, the museum’s archaeology section was transferred to its modern
building inside Kültürpark, where it continues its activities today.
Located
in the northwestern part of Anatolia a region shaped by interactions between
Asia and Europe, Bursa has maintained its importance from prehistoric times to
the present day. In addition to early settlements, the city was a significant
center of the Bithynia and Mysia regions in Antiquity. Today, with over 60,000
artifacts, Bursa Archaeology Museum stands among Türkiye’s richest museum
collections.
