About Bursa Atatürk House Museum

Located on Çekirge Street, the Bursa Atatürk House Museum is believed to have been built in the late 19th century. The mansion consists of two main floors in addition to a basement and an attic. During Atatürk’s second visit to Bursa (20–24 January 1923), Bursa Municipality purchased the house from Miralay Mehmet Bey and presented it to Atatürk as a gift. From that period onward, Atatürk stayed in this residence during his visits to the city.

After 1938, the mansion was sold to the Turkish Republic Pension Fund (T.C. Emekli Sandığı) by Bursa Municipality. On 6 February 1968, the Pension Fund transferred the building to the General Directorate of Museums. The house was restored and opened to visitors as a museum on 29 October 1973, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Republic.

Architecture and Layout

The mansion reflects the influences of 19th-century French architectural style. Its balconies, eaves, pediments, and decorative wooden details are among the finest examples of traditional craftsmanship. The structure is built of masonry, with the basement originally serving as the kitchen and service area.

First Floor:

  • A reception hall located to the right of the entrance
  • A dining room on the left
  • A small lounge used for resting and drinking tea or coffee, connected to the dining area

Second Floor:

  • Atatürk’s bedroom on the right
  • A study room on the left
  • A small lemon house (conservatory) accessible through the study

The majority of the furnishings displayed in the house are original pieces used by Atatürk, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into his daily life.

Garden and Additional Features

In the eastern part of the garden stands a beautifully decorated pavilion, adorned with traditional hand-painted motifs. The overall atmosphere of the mansion and its surroundings provides a serene and historically rich experience for visitors.
