About Contemporary Glass Arts Museum from Eskişehir
Located within the central boundaries of the Odunpazarı
district, the Contemporary Glass Arts Museum was established in 2007 through
the cooperation of the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Anadolu University,
and the Glass Friends Group (Cam Dostları Grubu).
As Turkey’s first glass museum, it exhibits works
by 58 Turkish and 10 international artists, offering visitors a
fascinating insight into the artistic possibilities created by the transparency
and versatility of glass. Visitors are invited to explore its striking
collections and discover how glass transforms into a powerful artistic medium.
Opened to the public on 1 December 2007, the
Contemporary Glass Arts Museum became Turkey’s first museum dedicated to
contemporary glass art, fulfilling an important cultural and artistic need for
the city while significantly enriching its cultural life. The museum houses 125
artworks, created using a wide range of techniques—from hot glass
blowing to cold shaping—by nationally and internationally recognized
artists.
The museum was founded through the collaboration of the
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Anadolu University, and the Glass Friends
Group. Today, works created by local and international artists using diverse
techniques are displayed across three separate exhibition halls,
allowing visitors to experience the richness and diversity of contemporary
glass art.
Following the United Nations’ declaration of 2022 as
the International Year of Glass, the museum—recognized as Turkey’s first
Contemporary Glass Arts Museum—joined an international collaboration organized
by the “Museum Without Borders” platform. As part of this project,
involving 39 countries including Turkey, 21 artworks from the
Contemporary Glass Arts Museum are accessible to audiences worldwide through an
online exhibition.
Since its opening, the museum has welcomed visitors from
almost every province of Turkey, as well as international tourists from
countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy. By
early 2024, the museum had hosted approximately 650,000 visitors,
reaffirming its status as one of Eskişehir’s most significant cultural
attractions.
