About Feza Gürsey Science Center
Named after Feza Gürsey—an internationally renowned
Turkish scientist honored with numerous global awards and recognized for his
groundbreaking work—the Feza Gürsey Science Center is Turkey’s first science
center. It was established by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality on 23 April
1993 as part of its mission to support education.
Opened on 23 April 1993, the Feza Gürsey Science Center
stands as the country’s first hands-on science center experience, offering
interactive exhibits and engaging demonstrations that make science accessible
and enjoyable for visitors of all ages.
Some of the interactive tests and exhibits include:
Flexibility Test
Human Body
In this unit, visitors can measure the flexibility of their bodies.
Grip Strength Test
Human Body
This exhibit allows visitors to test and measure their grip strength.
Reaction Time
Sports – Human Body
Here, visitors can find out how quickly they respond to a stimulus by measuring
their reaction time.
Music Synthesizer
Physics – Mathematics – Communication
In this exhibit, the sounds produced by a synthesizer and the electrical
signals that create those sounds can be observed through an oscilloscope.
Liquid Nitrogen Show
This demonstration uses liquid nitrogen—a substance
extremely cold at –196°C—to explain how temperature differences affect
materials. Objects are immersed in liquid nitrogen to observe the results. The
experiment also explores how extreme cold impacts living organisms and whether
life can continue under such conditions. Additionally, visitors learn about the
real-life applications of liquid nitrogen.
Chemical Reactions
Chemical reactions—processes in which substances lose their original properties and form new ones—often produce visible effects in a short period of time. The properties and types of chemical reactions are demonstrated in an engaging, fun, and interactive manner.
