About Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library
The Mehmet Akif Ersoy Literature Museum Library is a
literature and biography museum located in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye.
Established on 12 March 2011, the museum is situated in the Hamamönü district
of Altındağ and is dedicated to Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, the author of the Turkish
National Anthem (İstiklâl Marşı).
The museum was opened by the Ministry of Culture and
Tourism on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the adoption of the National
Anthem. It is housed in a two-storey building that reflects the architectural
characteristics of traditional Ankara houses and was restored specifically for
this purpose.
The library holds nearly 7,000 books and around 100
periodicals, including Mehmet Âkif Ersoy’s own works as well as publications
written about him. The archive is dedicated to notable writers from Ankara and
its surrounding region. The collection also includes books on Mustafa Kemal
Atatürk, the Gallipoli Campaign, and the Turkish War of Independence.
On the ground floor, visitors can view literary
periodicals, award-winning literary works, and books signed by authors. This
level also features a special section devoted to the life and works of Mehmet
Âkif Ersoy, where some of his personal belongings are displayed.
The upper floor is dedicated to books about Ankara and
works by Ankara-based authors.
In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum
library hosts literary discussions, book-signing events, poetry readings, and
creative writing workshops. It is recognized as the first institution of its
kind in Türkiye.
At the opening ceremony, the then Minister of Culture and
Tourism, Ertuğrul Günay, announced that the museum is part of the project
titled “Seven Museum Libraries in Seven Regions of Türkiye.” This nationwide
network also includes the Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar Literature Museum Library in
Istanbul, the Ahmet Arif Literature Museum in Diyarbakır, the Karacaoğlan
Literature Museum Library in Adana, the Erzurumlu Emrah Literature Museum
Library in Erzurum, the Attila İlhan Literature Museum Library in İzmir, and the
Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Literature Museum Library in Trabzon.
