About Rize Atatürk Museum
Rize
Atatürk Museum
The
Rize
Atatürk Museum is housed in a historical mansion that reflects
the characteristic style of 20th-century Turkish architecture.
With three floors above the basement, the building originally served as a
residence:
·
Basement: Used as a storage
and warehouse area
·
Upper floors: Designed as living
quarters
This
elegant home later gained historical significance when Mustafa Kemal
Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, stayed here
during his “Autumn
Tour” of the homeland. On 17 September 1924,
during his visit to Rize, Atatürk was hosted in this house belonging to Mataracı
Mehmet Efendi, a local notable recognized for his efforts in
the War
of Independence.
Transformation
into a Museum
To
commemorate the 100th anniversary of Atatürk’s birth, the
house was donated
to the Rize Special Provincial Administration with the aim of
converting it into a museum.
·
Restoration
completed:
27 December 1985
·
Opened as a museum: Following the
restoration, the house was inaugurated as the Rize Atatürk
Museum and has since welcomed visitors eager to explore both
local history and Atatürk’s legacy.
