About War of Independence Museum Eskişehir

Eskişehir War of Independence Museum – Eskişehir

The Eskişehir War of Independence Museum is a history museum located in the Historic Odunpazarı Houses area. It was opened to visitors on 29 October 2016, marking the 93rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye.

Children’s Section

On the ground floor, the Children’s Section has been specially designed to convey the spirit of the War of Independence to younger generations. Interactive kiosks feature animations and cartoons under the titles “Love for Atatürk,” “Atatürk and Children Through Photographs,” “Lausanne,” and “Eskişehir War of Independence Museum.”

Exhibition Areas

The upper floor of the museum includes several themed sections dedicated to the Turkish National Struggle:

  • Chronology Area, presenting the War of Independence under 24 main topics
  • Cartoon Room, displaying political cartoons published in period magazines
  • Newspaper Room, featuring newspapers from the era
  • Strategy Room, focusing on the First Battle of İnönü, and exhibiting wax figures of İsmet İnönü, Fahrettin Altay, and Mehmetçik, created by Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen
  • Screening Room, where a documentary about the National Struggle is shown

Selfie Room

At the exit, visitors can enjoy the Selfie Room, where they may take photographs using kiosk-based visuals featuring Atatürk and scenes from the War of Independence.

Accessibility

As the building is a registered historical structure and is not accessible by wheelchair, the museum provides an alternative solution. At the ticket office, wheelchair users can explore the museum through a 360-degree Virtual Tour via a touch-screen kiosk, allowing full digital access to the exhibitions.

Visitor Information

Since its opening, the museum has welcomed both domestic and international visitors from many countries. By early 2024, it had hosted nearly 300,000 visitors, making it one of Eskişehir’s important cultural and historical attractions.
