Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to visit Rumassala. The legendary chronicle ‘Ramayana’ proclaims that ‘Rumassala’ is a chunk of Himalayan Mountains in India that was brought by Hanuman to find medicine for Lakshman when he was injured in the battle with Ravana. Rumassala hill gives you a beautiful view of the southern coast of Galle. The Rumassala forest is a home to mammals, birds, insects and reptiles.

On completion, you will be taken to Ussangoda. Ussangoda differ from other destinations of Sri Lanka because of the exclusive soil structure and flora. There are several beliefs regarding the unique reddish color of the soil. The soil structure has some residuals like a meteoroid hit and is complemented with high concentration of minerals and metals. Due to the Martian look of the ground, it seems like we are on a Mars planet! According to the Ramayana Legend, Ussangoda is the place where King Rawana’s airport was constructed and his big peacock shaped air craft landed.

In the evening, you will visit Kataragama Hindu Temple. This temple is dedicated to God Kataragama usually is called Murugan or Kartikeya by Tamils & Kandasamy or God Skandha by Hindus. This multi religious complex has an Islamic Mosque and a Buddhist temple within its Devala premises. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Sinhala Buddhists, Hindu Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Moors and the Vedda people. God Kataragama furthermore has a link to the Ramayana legend. Lord Indra has been given orders to God Skandha to join the battle at the last day of the war to protect Lord Rama from the powerful wrath of king Ravana.

Overnight stay at a 3* Hotel in Kataragama. Your Stay is on Bed & Breakfast Basis.

After breakfast, you will be driven to Nuwara Eliya. En route visit Ravana waterfall and Cave.

Rawana Waterfall is a legendary waterfall that goes back to the era of Ramayana. This beautiful waterfall is located just near the Ella – Yala road. Measuring 25 m in height, this cascading waterfall is glorious to watch during the rainy season. It is told that King Ravana, kidnapped princess Sita and kept her hidden in a cave located behind the waterfall. Rawana Cave is believed to be one of several places where Rawana hid lovely Indian Princess Seeta after abducting her. Recently a 20,000-year-old skull was discovered in the cave. Measuring about 50ft wide, 150ft long and 60ft high, this cave will not impress a tourist who does not believe Ramayana.

Thereafter, you will visit Seetha Amman Temple. Sri Seetha Amman temple is a unique temple situated in Nuwara Eliya. This is believed to be the place where Seeta lived most of the time of her captivity according to the historical Legend of Ramayana. It is also unique in a way that it is one of the very few temples dedicated to Seeta. The place also has footmarks of the monkey god Hanuman.
