6-Day Machame Route – Kilimanjaro Climb Itinerary
A six-day climb of Kilimanjaro on the Machame route, the scenic “Whiskey” trail up the southern side of the mountain. The trek starts in rainforest at Machame Gate and works up through moorland to Shira and Barranco, with an acclimatisation climb to the Lava Tower and the Barranco Wall on the way to Barafu. Summit night begins around midnight for sunrise on Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, followed by the descent to Mweka Camp and out through Mweka Gate, where summit certificates are handed over before the drive back to Moshi.

Acclimatization day with a climb up to Lava Tower before descending.
Distance: ~10 km | Time: 6–8 hrs | Elevation: 3,840m to 3,950m
Conquer the Barranco Wall, then trek through alpine desert.
Distance: ~9 km | Time: 7–9 hrs | Elevation: 3,950m to 4,673m
Midnight start to the summit – the Roof of Africa!
Distance: ~17 km | Time: 10–14 hrs | Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Uhuru), then down to 3,100m
Final descent through rainforest. Receive summit certificates at the gate.
Distance: ~10 km | Time: 3–4 hrs | Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
Drive to Moshi at your Hotel for Hot shower and celebration!
