6-Day Machame Route – Kilimanjaro Climb Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Start your trek through lush rainforest.
Distance: ~11 km | Time: 5–7 hrs | Elevation: 1,800m to 3,000m

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Climb past the forest to moorland with stunning views.
Distance: ~5 km | Time: 4–6 hrs | Elevation: 3,000m to 3,840m

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
Acclimatization day with a climb up to Lava Tower before descending.
Distance: ~10 km | Time: 6–8 hrs | Elevation: 3,840m to 3,950m

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Conquer the Barranco Wall, then trek through alpine desert.
Distance: ~9 km | Time: 7–9 hrs | Elevation: 3,950m to 4,673m

Day 5: Summit Day – Barafu to Uhuru Peak, then down to Mweka Camp
Midnight start to the summit – the Roof of Africa!
Distance: ~17 km | Time: 10–14 hrs | Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Uhuru), then down to 3,100m

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Final descent through rainforest. Receive summit certificates at the gate.
Distance: ~10 km | Time: 3–4 hrs | Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
