Itinerary
(Lunch included)
Pamukkale is a must-see destination in Turkey and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The calcite-laden waters that flow from the cliff nearly 200 meters high have created a beautiful and surreal landscape, complete with mineral forests, petrified waterfalls, and terraced basins. The warm spring water, which contains calcium bicarbonate, runs at a temperature of 35°C and forms the terraces when it loses carbon dioxide and leaves limestone deposits.
During your visit to Hierapolis, you will also have the opportunity to see one of the largest ancient graveyards in the world, containing over 1,200 sarcophagi, some of which are as large as a small house. The Attalids, the kings of Pergamon, established the thermal spa of Hierapolis, and the ruins of their baths, temples, and other Greek monuments can still be seen on the site today. Other impressive ruins include the Great Theatre, the Tomb of St. Philip, the Roman Baths, the gymnasium (which now functions as a museum), and the Apollo Temple.
You may also choose to relax in the thermal pool, known as Cleopatra Pool (an additional entrance fee is required) in the region. After the tour, you will have some free time to explore and shop for Turkish handicrafts such as leather, textiles, onyx, jewelry, and Turkish Delight. In the late afternoon, you will return to Cesme.
