Mehmed the Conqueror commissioned the construction of a palace in the 15th century. Originally known as Saray-i Cedid-i Amire (New Palace), the palace was later called Topkapi Palace due to the pavilion called Toplu Kapi. Till the mid-19th century, Dolmabahce Palace was built, it was the Ottoman Sultan's house and the state administration center.
Situated on the Eastern Roman acropolis in Sarayburnu, and spanning an area of 700,000 square meters. In 1924, the was converted into a museum, the first museum of the young Republic. Its extensive collections and fascinating history make it one of the world's most impressive palaces, boasting approximately 300,000 artifacts, including the Imperial Treasury, European Porcelain and Glass, Copper and Tombak Utensils, Chinese and Japanese Porcelain, Silverware, The Chamber of the Cardigan and Holy Relics, Istanbul Glass and Porcelain, Sultan's Clothes, Sultan's portraits and painting collection, and weapons.
Among the most noteworthy exhibits are the golden ceremonial throne, Spoonmaker's Diamond, and Mustafa III's armor set decorated with diamonds, gold, and precious stones. Topkapi Palace is an Oriental dream, featuring a harmonious combination of blue, green, and yellow hues, sinuous motifs, and labyrinthine corridors that conceal secrets. It is a piece of One Thousand and One Nights tale worth seeing.
