Istanbul City Walls Tour – Byzantine & Ottoman Heritage Experience

We start the tour with a hotel pick-up in the morning and head to Istanbul’s Old City. The tour begins with a drive along the impressive Byzantine City Walls, which once protected Constantinople and still stand around the historic Old City. Our first stop is the Fener District, the historic Greek Orthodox neighborhood, followed by a walk around Balat, where we visit Tekfur Palace (Palace of the Porphyrogenitus), the only surviving palace from the Byzantine Era.

Next, we explore Anemas Dungeons, a large Byzantine building that served as a prison attached to the city walls. The tour continues with a visit to the Chora Mosque, dating back to the 12th century, originally a Byzantine church and now a mosque. Afterward, we enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we drive to Samatya, a district historically inhabited by Christians and Muslims, and then visit the Panorama 1453 Museum to see the visualized history of Istanbul’s conquest. The tour concludes with a visit to Yedikule Fortress (Fortress of the Seven Towers), built in 1458 by adding three new towers to a section of the Walls of Constantinople, which includes the Golden Gate.
