Highlights
Itinerary
Arrive in Accra, where you will be met, assisted, and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time, selected sites may be visited today. Begin a guided city tour of Accra with a scenic drive through the expansive and picturesque campus of the University of Ghana, Legon. Continue to James Town, one of Accra’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods, where rich heritage and colonial history are evident at every turn.Proceed through Makola Market, Ghana’s largest and most vibrant open-air market, offering a lively glimpse into everyday local life. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or explore at your own pace.

After breakfast, depart Accra and drive to Cape Coast. En route, visit Independence Square, home to the iconic Flame of African Liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961 to symbolize Ghana’s freedom and Pan-African pride. Continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set within beautifully landscaped gardens, the adjoining museum houses photographs, artifacts, and exhibits that provide insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life and legacy.
Proceed to Cape Coast, arriving in time for lunch. In the late afternoon, visit Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the major departure points for Africans forcibly taken into slavery in the Americas. Explore the historic dungeons and the poignant “Door of No Return.”
In the evening, enjoy a guided tour of the historic town of Elmina. At the harbor, observe the colorful fishing canoes as fishermen prepare to head out to sea for the night—an authentic and picture-perfect experience, especially for photography enthusiasts.

After breakfast, depart for a visit to Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s most renowned natural attractions. Enjoy a guided walk along the forest floor, where you may spot a variety of bird species, colorful butterflies, and, with some luck, wildlife such as monkeys and other mammals that inhabit the rainforest, including the elusive forest elephant.
Kakum is especially famous for Africa’s only aerial canopy walkway—a 1,000-foot-long suspension bridge system comprising seven bridges with viewing platforms that rise over 150 feet above the forest floor, offering breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy.
Optional Activity (at an additional cost): Visit Global Mamas for a hands-on cultural workshop. Global Mamas is a social enterprise dedicated to creating sustainable livelihoods for African women and their families. During the visit, you will have the opportunity to design and create your own tie-dye cloth, which you can take home as a meaningful souvenir.
