Following a restful night and a sumptuous breakfast, we proceed on a full-day tour of the Giza Pyramids, Memphis, and Saqqara. We will visit the towering pyramids, the ruins of Memphis in the village of Mit Rahina, and the Saqqara Necropolis, where the step pyramid of Zoser stands. After breakfast, we complete our tour of Cairo, including the Cairo Museum, in Tahreer Square. The museum is home to magnificent ancient Egyptian antiquities from different periods throughout ancient Egyptian history, including the magnificent treasure of King Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. The treasures were moved to this museum along with the famous 11-kg mask of gold. After lunch, head to the citadel of Salah al-Deen and visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque, followed by a visit to the oldest Bazaar in Africa (Kan El Khalili Bazaar).

Nonstop flights from Cairo to Accra are available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.) We check-out early this morning to the airport for a morning flight to Accra, Ghana. On arrival at Kotoka International Airport, our expert cultural tour guide will meet, assist and transfer you to your hotel in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Once you have checked in, your tour guide will brief you on what to expect during your stay here in Ghana. Dinner is at the hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll have a scenic drive around Accra’s commercial and administrative areas and visit the following places:
W.E.B. Du Bois Centre honoring the life of the prominent Pan-Africanist who chose to live and work in Ghana.
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, with its lovely grounds and museum, is a great site to learn about Ghana’s first president. Additionally, it serves as the last resting place for late President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who was previously laid to rest in Guinea and Nkroful, the town where he was born.
Just adjoining the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is the famous global marketplace, the Accra Arts & Crafts Centre. How about trying out your bargaining skills at the largest open market in Accra while you shop for some stunning authentic African wear, arts and crafts as souvenirs for family and friends back home. Drive by and make a brief stop at the Independence Arch and the Black Star Square, Accra’s ceremonial grounds. We return to the hotel.

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and proceed to Elmina, one of the historic towns that played a significant role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
En route, we will make a stopover at Assin Manso Slave River, the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. You will See the “Slave River,” where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean.
Next, enjoy a walking tour of Elmina Township, including the fishing harbor, where you will experience the sights of the many colorful fishing boats bringing their daily catch. This is a great opportunity to mix with the locals at the nearby market. Transfer to your resort, settle into your comfortable beachside accommodation for dinner and a good night’s rest, and be ready for the next day’s activities.

Following a leisurely breakfast, visit the Elmina Castle, also known as Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in 1482. This castle was the first European contact with West Africans when the Portuguese landed here in 1471, and the first structure built in Sub-Saharan Africa. The castle was also used as a Slave Prison.
We continue a short drive to Cape Coast, to see Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO world heritage site. Take an emotional journey through this thought-provoking monument, which held more enslaved Africans than any other in the region, viewing the dungeons and the infamous “Door of no return”. There is a significant historical museum inside, which explains the history of the castle and of Cape Coast itself. You can purchase literature on Ghana’s forts and castles, as well as the cultural history and traditions of Ghana. Return to the resort and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Following breakfast and check-out from the hotel, we take a scenic drive to visit Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Extending over 360sq km, it is home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species as well as many species of butterflies, flora, and fauna. Challenge yourself on the Canopy Walkway, which is the most popular attraction. The Canopy Walkway is made up of seven bridges extending 330m, hanging 30m (100 feet) above the forest floor, or walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer.
We return to Accra, arriving late in the afternoon. You will be transferred to the hotel for overnight.
