In Turkey, food is an important part of the culture. Join us on this tour to try a variety of traditional Turkish food and eat like the locals! First of all, we will taste Simit. Simit is like a Turkish bagel with sesame seeds on top. They are baked fresh daily and sold all around Istanbul in bakeries or little red carts on the streets. They are a cheap and satisfying breakfast and are hugely popular among locals. Next, we will visit a local place called a "kiraathane" which literally means "reading room" but is a place where men play cards or backgammon together while drinking Turkish tea. We'll drink Turkish tea ourselves from traditional tea glasses and go to an "ocakbasi", which is a type of charcoal barbecue where you sit by the fire and grill your kebabs while drinking Raki, a classic Turkish alcoholic drink. It tastes like licorice! Finally, we will go to a "meyhane" which is a place where people sit around a table, eat mezzes and drink more Raki! The next item on the menu is traditional "Iskembe Corbası", which is Tripe Soup. You have to taste it, at least! Then, to finish off, enjoy a delicious Turkish coffee.
