Rakoczi Museum

Francis II Rakoczi was a nobleman and leader of Rakoczi's War of Independence against the Habsburgs in the 18th century. He spent the last days of his life in Tekirdag province when the Peace of Szatmar was concluded between the House of Habsburg emperor Charles VI, the Hungarian estates, and the Kuruc rebels. He was exiled and lived in Poland, England, France, and Turkey-Tekirdag. He settled in a Turkish house on Barbaros Street and lived here until he died on April 8, 1735, when he was 59. In 1982, the Hungarian government converted the house into a museum and opened it to the public. Rakoczi’s personal belongings and Turkish and Hungarian folk art artifacts can be seen.
