Belize City serves as the main transport hub, with small domestic flights and water taxis connecting it to the cayes. The country's compact size means the reef, the ruins and the rainforest interior can often be combined within a single one- to two-week itinerary.

Belize City and San Ignacio

Belize City, though no longer the capital, remains the country's largest city and main arrival point, with the Museum of Belize housed in a former colonial prison. Inland, San Ignacio serves as a base for exploring the Cayo District's caves and ruins, with a Saturday market drawing farmers from surrounding villages.

Best Time to Visit Belize

The dry season runs from late November to April and offers the clearest water for snorkeling and diving. The wetter months from June to November coincide with hurricane season in the wider Caribbean, though inland rainforest areas remain accessible throughout the year.
