Itinerary

Arrival with AIRLINE Flight XX000 at XX:XX hours. Meet & greet at the airport of Havana with your English speaking guide. Transfer to your accommodation in Havana. Accommodation with breakfast: Colonial Hotel Palacio el Cueto 4.5* (or similar) in Old Town Havana.

Early in the morning, 08:30, your guide will pick you up for a discovery tour through Old Town Havana (approx 2.5 hours). A yellow coco taxi will wait for you and will take you via “Calle Prado” to the “Cathedral Square”, passing the famous “Capitolio”, Art Deco “Bacardi Building” and the “Museum of Revolution”. Later, explore the colonial town. Your guide will show you some of the main attractions of Old Town Habana, including the “Palacio de Los Capitanes Generales” (the former official residence of the governors of Havana), “La Plaza de Armas” (the city’s main square), “Cathedral Square”, Hemingway´s favorite haunts in Old Havana and “El Castillo de la Real Fuerza”, a stone fortress which dates back to 1562. The tour ends with a real Cuban experience you definitely may not miss during your stay in Cuba. Before lunch, you will visit a Salsa school with a rooftop terrace of a colonial house in the middle of Old Town Havana and learn the basic steps of the Cuban Salsa. From there you continue to lunch at a private restaurant (paladar) with delicious Cuban dishes (eg. Paladar “Doña Eutimia”) The afternoon & evening free.

Today visit one of the famous brand name cigar factories, such as “Partagas, Romeo & Julieta” or “La Corona”, where you will get to know the process involved in the production of high-quality cigars. Afterward, enjoy a tour in an American classic car and dive into the world of the 1950s. You will see the “Revolution Square”, the “Malecón” esplanade, head to Havana´s 5th Avenue, and the legendary Hotel Nacional, where you will learn more about the days of the Mafia in Cuba. Then on to the famous 5th Avenue, the former upper-class residential area of Miramar, where the beautiful mansions and the renovated Club Havana still remind you of bygone American times. You’ll love the architecture in this part of the city. On the way back through the Vedado district you’ll visit the “Cementerio de Cristobal Colon”, one of the largest cemeteries in Latin America, with over 500 elaborate mausoleums. Lunch today is at one of Havana’s unique paladares (e.g. at Paladar „San Cristobal“, a hidden gem in Centro Habana with its unique decor of Afro-Cuban Santeria and the music world of the 1950s, which has impressed celebrities like Beyonce, Jay C and President Obama and his family). Accommodation with breakfast: see day before.

An early start takes you along the “Tobacco Route” to the province of Pinar del Rio in the west of Cuba. Before you arrive Viñales, visit of a social community project “El Patio de Pelegrin”. From there, you’ll drive through the Mogote Valley with its famous limestone rocks and the picturesque village of Viñales. Visit a “Casa del Veguero” (house of a tobacco farmer) surrounded by beautiful scenery. After lunch (e.g. at Finca Agro-Ecologica or Balcon del Valle, both with panoramic views over the valley) you’ll see the “Prehistoric Wall”, a huge rock painting, created by the Cuban artist Gonzalez Modrillo in the 1960s. In the evening, dinner at the cult-restaurant “La Guarida” – „the hardest table to get in Havana“, location of the famous Cuban film “Strawberry and Chocolate“(nominated for an Oscar 1992), visited by the Queen of Spain, Sting, Robert Redford, Oliver Stone and Madonna). Accommodation with breakfast: see day before.

This morning enjoy a scenic 3 hours drive to Central Cuba and the “Zapata Peninsula”, one of the largest areas of swampland in the Caribbean and home of hundreds of native species of flora and fauna. Take a boat trip through the mangroves on the “Hatiguanico River” where you’ll spot a wide variety of aquatic birds, reptiles, and fish. In the afternoon, arrive at Cienfuegos – a city inspired by its French architecture. You can still see and feel the French ambiance while you walk around the city. At the main square, you will pass by the “Tomás Terry Theatre”, which attracted famous performers like Caruso, Sarah Bernhardt, and Anna Pavlova in the 19th century. You’ll visit the “Palacio del Valle”, the most famous building in Cienfuegos, and, in the evening, enjoy a walking tour of Punta Gorda Peninsula with its traditional wooden houses. Accommodation with breakfast: MELIA San Juan (4*).

Early in the morning visit of the “Botanical Garden” nearby Cienfuegos which contains over 200 species of tropical plants. Later, continue along the panoramic coast to Trinidad, Cuba’s best-preserved colonial city and a UNESCO World Heritage. A walking tour will take you through the old town with its cobbled streets and “Plaza Mayor”, surrounded by old colonial mansions. Stop at a local bar to try a “Canchánchara” – 19th Century cocktail made of water, lime, honey, and rum – Once refreshed, continue on to the “Museo Historico Municipal”, one of Trinidad’s showpiece museums which houses furniture and artifacts from Cuba’s colonial past. Dinner at o local paladar e.g. “Paladar 1514”. Accommodation with breakfast: Hotel La Popa 4*.

In the morning, take a trip on a nostalgic, steam-train* through Sugar Mill Valley with the Hacienda of the former sugar barons, Iznaga. Panoramic view from the legendary "slave tower". Then drive to Santa Clara, where Ernesto "El Ché" Guevara celebrated his greatest victory and, later found his final resting place. Visit the “Che Guevara Mausoleum” and “Tren Blindado”, a national monument commemorating the Cuban Revolution. Lunch at Paladar “Finca de Ta”. in the late afternoon arrival in Remedios, a small colonial town. Accommodation with breakfast: Colonial Hotel Mascote (3,5*), Standard Room or at one of the other charming “Encanto” Hotels, e.g. Hotel Barcelona (3,5*) or Hotel Camino del Principe (3,5*), all of them at or near the main square.
