What makes this tour special

Mount Everest – perhaps the only mountain known by everyone, sporty or nerdy, adventurous or prudent. Being the highest mountain above sea level on Earth, many mountaineers mark conquering the 8,848m on their bucket list. The risk involved, however, is a setback for most people who wish to enjoy the picturesque Everest scenery. But now, there is a moderate alternative for common folks – The Everest Base Camp Trek.

Itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu.

Upon your arrival we welcome you at the international airport and transfer you to our hotel. Enjoy the welcoming program and rest overnight.

Day 02 Fly from Manthali to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding (2640m)

Early in the morning drive to Manthali (4 hours) Take Manthali to Lukla flight. With the airport perched on the side of a mountain, you can see rolling clouds on the surging peaks of mountains seemly within your reach. In contrast to the hustle and bustle Kathmandu, Lukla, the gateway of all treks in the Everest region, is enveloped with the tranquility of the Himalayas – a patch of blue sky with snow-tipped mountains furnishing the ground, the air crisp and the wind slight. From there, we start our trekking journey. Today’s trek is relatively short and easy - we trek for about 3 hours to Phakding. During the gradual descending path to Phakding, you would be surrounded by towering mountains and rolling hills. Enjoy the view of Mount Khumbila and Kusum Kangraru and stay overnight at the teahouse at Phakding.

Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

After breakfast, we set our foot to the north from Phakding and trek for 6 hours to Namche Bazaar. Walking through a lush pine forest and crossing Dudh Koshi River, and right before entering Sagarmatha National Park, we would pass through a few quaint small villages like Chumoa and Monjo. Sagarmatha National Park is an UNESCO listed World Heritage Centre with dramatic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys. Several rare species of the Himalaya region, like the snow leopard and the lesser panda, can occasionally be found in the park. The natural greens there is a pleasure to the eye too - along the way, you can see thick pine woods and cedar covering the whole land with occasional little streams running by. After crossing a suspension bridge and a steep ascend trail, we reach Namche Bazaar - the largest commercial hub in the Khumbu region. Stay overnight at teahouse.

Day 04: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar

Today we will acclimate and explore Namche Bazaar. In here, you can do a final shopping for essentials before the trek. There are nice restaurants and cafes for you to chill and relax. Dental and medical services can also be found there. If it happens to be a Saturday, we can also visit the weekly market. The Everest Photo Gallery and Sherpa Culture Museum can offer you a more comprehensive picture on the mountain lives here. If you wish to witness it yourself, we may also go hiking to the Everest View Hotel for the panorama of the Himalayas lying ahead, or else we can trek to Khumjung village to have a glimpse of the life of Sherpas. Tonight stay at teahouse in Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3867m)

After breakfast, we start today’s trek by a light and easy right beside the Dudh Koshi River to Phunki, followed by an ascend to our destination of the day - Tengboche. Today’s trail is a scenic one that features the Himalayan range. Surrounded by rhododendron trees, the national flower of Nepal, Tengboche is a quaint and peaceful village. The Tengboche Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the Sherpa community in the Khumbu region. Situated inside the Sagarmatha National Park, Tengboche monastery is the perfect location for you to enjoy the panoramic view of mountains, featuring Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Tonight we stay at teahouse in Tengboche after the 6-hour trek.

Day 06: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4350m)

Today after breakfast we trek for 6 hours from Tengboche to Dingboche. For the downward path to Debuche, you can already see the towering peak of Mount Everest. After crossing the Imja River, we reach the village of Pangboche. Before reaching Dingboche, we could choose to visit the Pangboche Monastery as well. The buddhist monastery is famous for Meh-Teh Lama, a sasquatch and buddhist master living nearby. Then we ascend to Dingboche, the place where we will spend overnight for today. This Sherpa village is filled wit lodges and tenting areas. There, you may find kilometers of stone walls covering the whole valley of Imja. Small stupas can be found scattering around the place as well. Enjoy the scenic view here and rest overnight at teahouse.

Day 07: Acclimatization day at Dingboche

For the acclimatization day at Dingboche, we will spend our day for a relaxing hike to Nagerjun after breakfast. Despite the steep slope and high ascend that requires physical strength, the 4-hour hike definitely worths the efforts as it offers the stunning panoramic view of a few famous peaks, including Lobuche East, Lobuche West, Lhotse, Kangtega and Thamserku. You can also obtain a bird-eye view of the whole Imja Khola Valley, as well as the Dingboche village there. After our hike, we head back to the village and enjoy a little private time in Dingboche. Stay overnight at teahouse and prepare for tomorrow’s trek.

Day 08: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4931m)

After breakfast, we begin to trek from Dingboche to Lobuche. On our way, we will pass through the Periche Aid-post of the Himalayan Rescue Association where it provides medical service for trekkers on mountain sickness. As we ascend through the steep path along Khumbu Glacier, we walk up some steep slopes and reach Chupki Lhara, where the whole area is enveloped by breathtaking mountain views. As we walk up to a ridge, we can find a memorial shrine crafted especially for trekkers who give up their lives for the Everest. Further down the Khumbu Glacier moraine, peaks like Khumbutse, Lingtren, Mahalangur Himal and the Pumori are right at the front. Crossing the glacier marks an end to our 5-hour trek of today. Stay overnight at teahouse.

Day 9: Trek from Lobuche to EBC through Gorak Shep (5170m)

Today is our big day of trekking to the Everest Base Camp. Although we will trek approximately for 8 hours, it will not be very challenging since we have to walk slowly to get adapted to the altitude. The path begins with a relatively easier trek to the village of Gorakshep, where we can take a rest and have tea in the lodge. Then we will walk a straight upward rough path all the way to the Everest Base Camp. Enjoy the stunning view of the Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori. Immerse in the immense beauty of the Everest and rest overnight at teahouse.

Day 10: Trek to Kalapatther (5545m), then Pheriche (4210m)

Today early morning after breakfast we trek from Gorak Shep, walking along the scenic route featuring the Everest, Lingtren and Changtse to Kalapatther for the sunrise. The journey of summit is of slow and steady pace, which you could also enjoy spectacular mountain views along the way. The sunrise is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience - you have the chance to see the sun coloring the whole sky with fiery red and orange, the whole world awakened by the little red ball gradually, with the tip of Everest tinged with the golden ray of light. Then, we descend to Pheriche and spend the night at teahouse. The whole trek of the day would be approximtely 7-8 hours.

Day 11: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Today after breakfast, we follow the path of Imj River with numerous ascends and descends. During our 7-hour trek, we will pass through rhododendron and juniper forests, cross a suspension bridge and walk through a pine forest where lots of wild animals inhabit in. Then, we will pass Kyangjuma and reach Namche Bazaar again. Stay overnight at teahouse in Namche.

Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Enjoy breakfast and get prepared for the challenging descending journey of today. The way from Namche back to Lukla is rather steep and rocky. Trekking alongside the Dudh Koshi River for 7 hours, we will cross suspension bridges, walk through some pine and rhododendron forests and pass by some monasteries. After reaching Lukla, let’s sit back, relax and have a toast on completing the whole trek. Stay overnight at guesthouse in Lukla.
