57th Regiment Martyrdom and Monument
The 57th Regiment Martyrdom and Monument was built by the Ministry of Culture on December 12, 1992, at the southern end of Kilicbayir on the Kabatepe-Conkbayiri road. During the war, foreign soldiers referred to this location as "Chessboard." The newly built martyrdom serves as a symbolic representation, while the actual martyrdom is located in the Cataldere Valley at the southern end of Bomba Ridge. The 57th Regiment of the 19th Division, led by Lieutenant Colonel Huseyin Avni Bey, was the first Turkish force to meet and repel the advancing Anzac troops on the Ariburnu Front on the first day of the foreign landings. Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Kemal, commander of the 19th Division, first demonstrated his exceptional leadership and courage qualities here.
