Acik Saray Monastery (Gulsehir)

The ancient name was Zoropastos. In the area, 15 cave churches with nine prominent courtyard complexes are located. It has been believed that around 964 or 965, the Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros Phokas’ army stayed here for a while. Around the palace, the mushroom-shaped fairy chimney and Roman tombs can be seen too. Today it is a highly preferred trekking route; in addition, it is recommended that the region be visited early in the morning because of the sun's angle.
