Alaeddin Mosque

The Alaeddin Mosque, located on Alaeddin Hill in Konya, was constructed as the grand mosque of the city during the Anatolian Seljuk State. It is Konya's largest and oldest mosque, built in two phases. The first phase started during Mesud I's reign and ended with the construction of a cupola in the mosque's courtyard during Kılıçarslan's reign. Later, Izzeddin Keykavus I began expanding the mosque, but the construction was left unfinished after his death. It was completed during the early years of Alaeddin Keykubad I's reign. The tomb of most of the Seljuk dynasty is located under the cupola built by Kilicarslan, while the second cupola, started by Izzeddin Keykavus, was never completed.
