Asmali Mescit

Asmali Mescit covers the place between Istiklal and Mesrutiyet streets. According to the resources, shipyard chief Yunus Aga built a mosque here, and the district is named Asmali Mescit after it. However, today there is not much left of it. The district has been a settlement since the Ottoman era, so many historical apartments and passages take place here. Syria Arcade and Narmanli Inn are the only two of them. Plus, the Museum of Illusions in Istanbul is located in the Narmanli Inn. The district is a well-known and preferred place for its restaurants and taverns. It is possible to reach the district on foot from Istiklal Street.
