Augustus Temple (Ankara)

The Augustus Temple is located in the Altindag district of Ankara Province. It was most probably built on the site of a former temple by Emperor Augustus in Ankyra after the Galatian province was annexed to the Roman Empire in the 27th century BC. The temple was first built surrounded by eight columns on its narrow sides and fifteen on its long sides, but in later periods it underwent some changes. During the Byzantine period, it was converted into a church early in the 6th century. Later in the 15th century, the Haci Bayram Mosque was built next to it. Today, the ruins can be visited.
