Aynali Cave

Aynali Cave is the monumental tomb of TES, the Priest of Mitra, who lived in Amasya during the Hellenistic Age in the 2nd century. It is the best preserved and completed cave tomb in the region. The inscription at the entrance refers to the "Great Priest Tes," and the interior paintings depict the twelve apostles. The facade of the tomb was polished, so when the sun hits it, it shines like a mirror. Thus it is called Aynali, which means mirror.
