Chunuck Bair

Chunuck Bair takes place on the Gallipoli Peninsula, between Kabatepe, Suvla Bay, and Besim Hill, where some of the battles during WWI occurred. Its altitude is 261 meters, making it the peak of the entire peninsula, and thus one of the most important during the First World War. Anzac troops captured a part of the hill on August 8, 1915, and called it Chunuk Bair; however, it has been known as Shrapnel Valley too. It is at the same time Ataturk's headquarter during the campaign and where he was shot from his clock. Today it is a section of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical Site and WW1 monuments are erected.
