Cleopatra's Gate

Tarsus was an important city during ancient times and was the capital of Cilicia. It has been believed that Cleopatra entered the city from this door when she came to meet with her love, Mark Antony. In his travels, Evliya Celebi mentions the city wall. However, following the Egyptian-Ottoman War of 1831-1833, Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt demolished the walls. Currently, it is one of the most visited sites in the city.
